ABOUT

Dark Retreats

Dark retreat, spending extended time in total darkness for the purpose of spiritual and emotional development, is a practice found in cultures around the world. First popularized in the West by the Taoist teacher Mantak Chia, and well known as a part of some Tibetan meditation systems, interest in dark retreat has been growing steadily for decades.

Current figures who have helped spark this interest include Steven Bartlett (Diary of a CEO), Joe Dispenza, Tami Simon, and Andrew Holochek.

People pursue dark retreat for a variety of reasons, including:

Personalized Support

These days, due to the increasing popularity of dark retreating, many people without extensive training in a psychospiritual discipline are eager to explore this practice. And indeed there is much that can be gained from it.

It is our experience, however, that many without sufficient preparation don’t get as much out of their retreat as the potential of darkness has to offer. People frequently come into the dark wanting to access inner healing and guidance of some kind but often wind up struggling with their experience in unproductive ways.

To address this situation, so all comers can access the full wisdom of the dark, we take an interested and active role in helping each retreatant work with their mind and their experience.

We welcome people of all levels of experience. For those who are less experienced, we provide and encourage a collaborative retreat. But for those who are confident in their practice, we are happy providing the place and opportunity for independent work in the dark.
