DARK RETREATS FOR

Burnout Recovery

Dark retreat is a uniquely restorative way to recover from nervous system burnout. Most people in our society could benefit from the deep rest that dark retreat can provide. This is especially true for those who are neurodivergent and particularly sensitive to over-stimulation and general overwhelm. For those with sensory processing challenges, dark retreat can provide a safe and deeply restful space to integrate, reflect, and regroup.

It is quite common for many retreatants to spend the first two or three days of their retreat sleeping an extra four or five hours a day. This is an indication of a deeper state of calm that persists even when you are not asleep, allowing for nervous and biological restoration processes.

The rest of darkness is not just utilitarian but is also a great pleasure to be enjoyed.  Often, the experience of the dark is like the contented purr of a cat with its needs fulfilled, restfully enjoying the pure sensuality of its experience. Dark retreat is without a doubt the most restful vacation one can find, and it is no less pleasurable than any other.
