Creative Pursuit

For people with highly creative pursuits (especially musicians, composers, and writers), the dark offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in your creative process in a unique way. By cutting out not only daily distractions, but in fact the visual input that otherwise demands ongoing brain processing, increased focus and breadth of creative scope becomes possible. Additionally, the increased emotional clarity resulting from the peace and calm of the dark allows for more meaningful, nuanced, and coherent creative ideas to emerge.

 

This applies most obviously to musicians, who in the dark can immerse themselves in a world of pure sound. There are no sound constraints on your use of the dark space. We welcome people playing their instruments and singing in the dark.

 

Writers have also benefited. It is possible to write in the dark, or alternatively one can narrate to a lightless voice recorder.

 

From our own experience of creative inspiration in the dark, we are confident that artists of all stripes can benefit from the increased emotional clarity of the dark, allowing for the emergence of impactful creative ideas which can be developed after leaving retreat.
